Unforgettable Choral Experiences at the 2024 Brecon Choir Festival

18- 21st July 2024

Mark your calendars, choral enthusiasts! July 2024 brings the third annual Brecon Choir Festival, a celebration of music set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. For four days, the heart of Brecon will resonate with harmonious voices, drawing attendees into an unforgettable musical journey.

Expanded Programme and International Highlights This year, the festival's programme is more diverse and exciting than ever, featuring a rich tapestry of concerts, talks, and activities designed to captivate audiences of all ages.

One of the festival's crown jewels is award-winning Busi Mhlanga (known as ‘The Queen of Abenguni’) and her 9 piece choir joining forces with Aberhonddu & District Male Voice Choir. Their collaboration with local favourite Aberhonddu & District Male Choir promises to be a fusion of cultural richness and vocal excellence. The festival will also host the renowned "Red Jackets" of the London Welsh Male Voice Choir at the magnificent Brecon Cathedral, and the rising stars of the British choral scene, Continuum, will present a special concert themed around the works of Henry Vaughan at Christ College.

Themed on Henry Vaughan's Musical Legacy

The 2024 festival theme centres on the musical legacy of Breconshire's own Metaphysical Poet, Henry Vaughan. Vaughan's poetry, steeped in the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, has inspired composers like Holst, Parry, and Finzi. This year's festival seeks to explore Vaughan's world, understanding the deep connections between his poetic vision and the music it inspired.

Events linked to this theme include a premiere of "The Morning Watch" by Geraint Lewis, performed by Continuum, and a pre-concert discussion featuring the esteemed Rowan Williams. Other highlights include "Brecon in Revolution!"—a town tour with Professor Sarah Clavier, a festival hike exploring the mountains that inspired Vaughan, and a special exhibition at the Found Gallery by artist Nina Krauzewicz, titled "Glimpses into the Botanical World of Henry Vaughan."

What to Expect: A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation

Brecon Choir Festival is a testament to the power of choral music to forge connections and create lifelong memories. Attendees can look forward to experiencing:
