With the Easter holidays upon us and the days growing longer, there's no better time to explore the stunning landscapes of Powys—from rolling hills and river valleys to peaceful parks and wild open spaces. Whether you're planning a family day out, a walking weekend, or a cycling escape, we invite you to discover all that our region has to offer.
Here’s your guide to making the most of your time in the great outdoors this spring:

Respect
Powys is a shared space—home to local communities, farmers, and fellow adventurers.
Be kind, share the space, and give a friendly hello to those you pass.
Don’t block gateways or driveways—think before you park.
Stick to marked footpaths and trails—respect local signs and guidance.
Farming, Wildlife & Livestock
Our countryside is full of life—please help us keep it that way.
Give animals space and don’t feed or disturb them.
Keep dogs on a lead near livestock and during bird nesting season.
Close gates behind you—or leave them as you found them.
Travel and Parking
Getting here is part of the adventure—let’s do it safely and mindfully.
Drive slowly and carefully on rural roads.
Use public transport where you can (check out Traveline Cymru for routes).
Always leave room for emergency vehicles when parking.

Dog Owners—We Love Your Companions Too!
Dogs are welcome—but must be under control.
Keep them on a lead or in sight.
Clean up after them—bag it, bin it, or take it home.
Watch for signage about seasonal or permanent restrictions.
Protect the Environment
Powys is a natural treasure—let’s keep it that way.
Take your litter home. Leave no trace.
BBQs only where clearly permitted. No open fires.
Please don’t damage trees, plants, or historic features.

Plan Ahead, Stay Safe
Adventure is better with a little prep.
Check the weather forecast and your route before setting off.
Dress for the season—layers, waterproofs and sturdy footwear go a long way.
Let someone know where you're heading, especially in remote areas.
Enjoy Your Visit
Take in the views, breathe in the fresh air, and make some memories.
Be respectful.
Be responsible.
Leave it even better than you found it.
This Easter, whether you're soaking in the wild beauty of Elan Valley’s reservoirs, walking a stretch of the legendary Offa’s Dyke Path, or cycling around the serene shores of Lake Vyrnwy, Powys is bursting with adventure and tranquility.
But why not explore beyond the well-trodden trails?
Discover the magical stillness of Llyn Clywedog, with its dramatic dam and osprey nesting sites. Or take the scenic road less travelled to Craig Goch, the “top dam” of Elan Valley—especially stunning at golden hour.
Stroll the flower-rich meadows at Gilfach Nature Reserve, spot red kites soaring over Llanidloes and Rhayader, or delve into the quiet charm of Montgomery, with its castle ruins and timeless market square.
Climb the heights of Cadair Berwyn for panoramic views across the Berwyn Mountains, or head to Breidden Hill and Rodney’s Pillar for a family-friendly walk with rewarding vistas over the borderlands.
Wherever your feet, wheels, or paddles take you this Easter—Powys welcomes you with open skies, winding paths, and peaceful places to pause.
Let’s work together to respect, protect, and enjoy this extraordinary landscape—so it remains a wonderful place to live, visit, and return to time and time again.
