Mid Wales forms the geographical heart of Wales, running from the Brecon Beacons National Park in the south to the foothills of Snowdonia in the north.
Its eastern boundary traces the England Wales border, and the country remains landlocked to the East, partitioned from the swells of Cardigan Bay by the rural shires of Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.
The Cambrian Mountains form the spine of Mid Wales. These are crossed by a series of winding roads and narrow lanes that could have been purpose built for cycling, as well as an equally impressive network of off- road trails that draw mountain bikers from all over the country. The area around Mid Wales’ forests, canals and reservoirs provide a safe, traffic-free environment for family cyclists, and two National Cycle Routes cross the region - perfect for those who want to spend a few days in the saddle.
Off Road
Exactly how dirty do you want to get? Because you and your bike might well require a serious hose down after some of our epic cross-country adventures.
With a range of centres, bases and trails, whether guided or free riding you’ll discover a network of tracks and bridleways. Take it at your pace, whether you’re starting out on gentle off road trails or going full on off-piste. The only reason you’ll want to stop is to rest before doing it all again.
The only reason to go up is to come down. Fast descents and downhill thrills will capture your breath and provide a treat, whatever your age or ability.

And for the boldest of cyclists, the 250-mile epic journey that is Lôn Las Cymru awaits. This iconic route spans the length of Powys, taking you through a tapestry of terrains, from rolling hills to majestic valleys.
All Ability
If you're not a regular cyclist, you can hire specialist and alternative bikes from hubs in prominent locations at Elan Valley Visitor Centre and Drovers Cycles in Hay on Wye. Regardless of your needs, you'll be able to enjoy cycling in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.
Both hire sites have trained staff who will be able help with any questions, give you a demonstration, provide information on safe cycling routes and make sure that you have a perfect cycling experience. Please visit the individual websites to check opening times and prices. We recommend that you call the centre in advance to ensure someone will be available to help you. Both locations have disabled-friendly facilities such as toilets, a range of accessories, car park, a wealth of local knowledge, and a 'try before you hire' area available. We have carefully selected these alternative bikes to remove barriers to cycling and make the countryside more accessible for everyone.

National Cycle Museum
